Are you listening to messages from your body?

Bodyworks Internationale Nutrition Y

It’s funny, man has been on this planet for billions of years … yet we seem to have uncovered only a minute amount of information regarding the nutrition that is in our foods. So as scientists continue digging deeper and deeper, we, in the meantime can continue the experiment ourselves by using the one available resource which matters most – Our Body.

When you visit a store and walk past the aisles and aisles of ‘diet’ books ~books which tell you what to eat, how much to eat, suggest you count calories, suggest you to quickly lose weight, suggest what you should look like … I’m going to ask you to keep walking. Because you already carry with you the strongest resource available ~and that’s your body. It’s true! Your body is your map, your guide and … your friend. Too often we bash ourselves and hate on self only to get where – nowhere. Your body will provide you with more feedback than any book you’ll ever read. But first … you have to learn to ‘listen’ to it, to hear it speak and discover how best to respond. You have to pay attention. And above all, you need to realize that where your body is right now is a sign, a signal for attention. Stop hating yourself because of where your body is at today. Your body has been trying to send you messages …the little pains you can experience, a quickened heart rate, a rash, anxiety, depression, moods … these are all signals that your body sends to the brain. A request for you to pay attention, a request for help, for assistance because ‘something’ you either ate, drank, put on your body, inhaled, or experienced …. is causing a reaction within your body.

How many times have you felt full, experienced a stomach ache or had a headache or a fever? These are signals, little knocks on your door of consciousness that something is happening. But what do we do? Too often, we seek immediate gratification and immediate relief, so we medicate. Our fast pace world often leads us to seek immediate comfort. We’ve been healing this way most of our life, so we don’t stop to wonder what experience, force or outside influence caused our condition. Instead we seek to shut it off. Now, please don’t get me wrong, there is a place for medicine. Medicine can be a very wise antidote. However, we need to seek to understand what we’re doing to our health when our initial reaction is to medicate. We need to realize that the side effects from pharmaceutical medicines will grow, persist and transform. That’s why it’s so important to understand that there are forms of medicine which are not healing, but are instead causing more illness. Most often, medicine will bring temporary relief to the symptoms and not cure the underlying illness.

So when you wonder how to control your own health and the health of your family … realize that what you put into or on your body, as well as elements surrounding your body, including your thoughts… these items can either help or hinder your health:

– Things you put in your body – Food, medicines, drinks, etc. … keep in mind that the closer the food you consume is connected with the sun, thus grown from the Earth with no chemicals -especially no GMO’s …the higher the quality of food that enters your body, thus providing the greatest fuel for your body. Be cautious of packaged foods in the store as well as at restaurants (particularly fast food restaurants), and carefully read about any medicines you are taking.

– Things you put on your body -Cosmetics, lotions, bug sprays, sun screens, etc. … do your own homework and research products. Realize that these companies want to make money first and foremost. So it’s up to us to look into what is in the products used on our body or applied to our children. Your skin is your largest organ and absorbs chemicals in our environment.

– Things that surround outside your body -Pollution, insecticides, household cleaning supplies, etc. … these items which we breathe in can enter through the lungs, the eyes, the nose… and can also be absorbed through the skin. I cannot stress enough the lack of responsibility from industries to ensure the public’s well-being. Money speaks anthems to many industries, so it’s in your best interest to read up on the products you use. When you discover companies bettering the environment, be sure to share this information with others and help bring focus to the companies that are bettering our planet.

… and finally, it’s important to also understand that thoughts can also hinder and affect our health … think about this the next time you witness or experience an argument or are surrounded by negative people. Our current election is a great example (unfortunately). Experiencing the amount of harsh comments in our current election has, indeed, caused illness and stress through the constant message played through our media sources. So search for downtime from media and redirect that time toward unwinding and uplifting your soul throughout your day.

Have you found yourself becoming aware of symptoms and warnings from your body begging for better health? If you have, please share your experience below. We are often gifted from wisdom of others~

Nice work, informative and thought provoking post! We should all be listening more acutely to what our body tells us throughout each day! Thank you!

I’m glad you enjoyed the article, Rick!

Nice article Lynn. I’m curious if you have a list of cleaning supplies that are safe to use. Thanks

Hi Kay! I found a great DIY site – which not only includes cleaning recipes but it also has a nice list of commercial non-toxic cleaning products. Their recipes range from toilet bowl cleaner, tub & tile cleaner to laundry detergent. I hope this helps!

Great article! My body is currently sending me VERY STRONG signals about the state of physiological stress that it’s in… funny how easy it was to ignore the signs when I was only focused on my diet and exercise… and not one thought about how much my own thoughts have been hindering me. I’m now going through the the very slow process of trying to unwind more and more 🙂

Katie, I’m curious if you’ve tried meditation? Not only can it help to gain focus through the day, but the breathing rhythm can create a great sense of relaxation.
As for having ignored these signals in the past, I find it so awe-inspiring for you to now being able to put more focus here. Indeed, ignoring the signals is definitely the easy thing to do. Keep in mind that small steps lead to the greatest of destinations <3
